Many people heralded the 2007 minimum wage increase from $5.15 to $7.25 an hour.
Ponder this:
If the 1968 minimum wage of $1.60 kept up with inflation it would have been an estimated $10 in 2010 dollars…….that’s $2.75 higher than what you make now.
Started in 2012 by David Alexander Bullock, the Crusade for America movement is a movement to defend our freedoms. Poverty, racial injustice, violence, unfettered economic power all jeopardize the fulfillment of human freedom. With more than 48 million Americans food insecure and a rising culture of violence, our public policy and political life has decayed. It no longer provides a level playing field for the American WORKER, the American STUDENT, the American CITIZEN, and the American CITY. Our politics has stacked the deck against our own interests. We MUST fight back. Crusade for America is a movement to mobilize around an agenda to change the political, social, and economic life of America. Crusade for America is ultimately a crusade for the world with multiple campaigns under it ran by the Change Agent Consortium. In 2012 this blog featured the STOP THE VIOLENCE and ROCK THE VOTE initiatives of this campaign. NOW FEATURING: COMMUNITY WEALTH BUILDING

The Change Agent Consortium is a national coalition of faith, labor, civil rights organizations and active citizens. We combine the best of the protest tradition (direct action) with economic empowerment, community development and community organizing to effect real change and real solutions. We believe that authentic social change must combine the power of grassroots protest (direct action), public policy and local projects that help communities discover themselves, determine themselves and develop themselves.
“As discontent with the economic and political status quo mounts int he wake of the “great recession,” America Beyond Capitalism is a book whose time has come. Gar Alperovitz’s expert diagnosis of the long-term structural crisis of the Americaneconomic and political system is accompanied by detailed, practical answers to the problems we face as a society. Unlike many books that reserve a few pages of a concluding chapter to offer generalized, tentative solutions, Alperovitz marshals years of reserach into emergeing “new economy” strategies to present a comprehensive picture of practical bottom-up efforts currently unerway in thousands of communities across the United States. All democratize wealth and empower communities, not corporations: worker-ownership, cooperatives, community land trusts, social enterprises, along with many supporting municipal, state, and longer term federal strategies as well. America Beyond Capitalism is a call to arms, a practical roadmap for laying foundations to change a faltering system that increasingly fals to sustain the great American values of equality, liberty, and meaningful democracy.
